Coal Mine Wide Monitoring

Most of the PBE product lines available today are applicable to underground Coal mining operations. The categories of communications, conveyor and motion monitors, dust suppression, fire suppression, gas monitoring, material level Indicators, mine wide monitoring and control, personnel and equipment tracking, and transient voltage suppression contain devices engineered to increase mine safety as well as productivity.

Material level indicators help increase productivity and efficiency by alerting operators in the event of materials spillage or low-levels.  The PD78 series for point level material detection such as overfill alarms or low level warnings in addition to the Model 230 Tilt switch series are available in various configurations for belt head spill detection and storage bins.

Communications has been a cornerstone of the PBE tradition with our full line of paging telephone systems since the early 1970’s. Models are available as 12 VDC, 120 VAC, with optional strobe lights for visual indication and bullhorn speakers for increased audible output, plus several other features. Our more advanced communications solutions are VHF and UHF leaky feeder systems using Motorola or other portable two-way radio devices. Also available is our Tracking Boss personnel and equipment tagging system. Communications and tracking can be interfaced together for a total MSHA approved solution to meet the requirements of the 2006 U.S. Miner Act or the needs of any underground coal mine in the world.

Our more than forty years of experience in the underground coal industry has resulted in some of the best products available for conveyor and motion monitoring. PBE belt monitoring equipment have proven to be rugged and reliable in some of the harshest mining environments on the planet and yet are flexible enough to fit any application in any industry. The Model 450 and 452 motion switches are the smallest of the line specializing in belt speed monitoring. Next in the motion monitoring line is the Model 405 A/II and Model 407 capable of monitoring a single conveyor for slip or the sequencing of two conveyors by utilizing two sensors. The top of the line is the versatile Belt Boss series. Offered in various models and configurations the Belt Boss control stations are capable of handling fire suppression, dust suppression, conveyor sequencing, spill monitoring and other sensors as either stand alone control stations or networked together through the MineBoss™ Monitoring and Control system.

PBE dust suppression products are designed for use on belt conveyors to reduce airborne particles caused by the movement of coal through the mine. The Model 234 / 237 combo system is an electronically controlled water spray system engineered for conveyor transfer points or mid points on long belt runs. The unit can be connected to a Belt Boss for increased efficiency by operating only when the conveyor is running.

Fires can occur anywhere electrical devices or conveyor belts are present therefore our fire suppression products are engineered to meet the needs of the mining industry. The Model 225 detects and suppresses fire with water by means of fusible alloy sprinkler nozzles mounted around stationary equipment. The Model 227 is a chemical suppression system and the Model 235 is another water based system both of which use temperature sensors placed around the area to be protected. The top of the line system in this category is the Flow Boss system designed to exceed MSHA and NFPA pressure requirements. These solutions are customized to cover any belt head, take up or underground belt storage area in the mine.

Atmospheric gas monitoring has always been a concern to the coal mining industry and this is another key PBE product category. A comprehensive line of monitors including carbon monoxide, carbon dioxide, hydrogen sulfide, sulfur dioxide, oxygen, methane, nitrogen dioxide, and more are available. As technology advances so do our products with the RF resilient Model 3000 series designed to operate interference free in today’s radio communications mine environments. New models are being designed to take advantage of various wireless platforms for greater flexibility and monitoring applications.

PBE mine wide monitoring solutions as you can see are truly designed to be mine wide.
