Communications

The Model 139 Coupler unit provides for dialing of a public phone number directly from the keypad on the front which allows connection of page phone users with outside parties. This is accomplished by pressing the "connect button" located on the front cover once contact has been made with the outside party. In the event a call is received on the public line for personnel  reachable only by the paging system they are also connected by pushing the "connect button". 

Installation involves simply connecting the page phone line to the binding post and to the public phone system with the attached phone cord and RJ 45 connector.  For emergency operation the coupler contains a backup battery in the event of a power failure. The Model 139 serves the additional benefit of restricting outgoing calls by providing programmable authorized numbers.  A connector is provided on the hinge side of the enclosure for connection to a computer and this connection provides logging of all call activity if desired.

DIALING
The connect button on the coupler  permits dialing out. Dialing can be monitored by page phones connected to the coupler or a telephone sharing the same public line. An alternate method is press the "#" key then "9" on the couplers dial pad. If calling from a page phone on the system, press the handset talk switch while pressing  the "#" key and then the "9" key on the Model 139.  Either way once a dial tone is heard key in the number to be called. When the party answers talk as normal if duplex sound is enabled or as a two way conversation, similar to talking using a speaker phone. (One party talks while the other listens).

HANGING UP
Some public phone systems provide  automatic disconnects when either party hangs up.  If the coupler is connected to this type of system, it will automatically hang up when the telephone company signal is received that the other party has hung up.  Should the public system not have such a feature, the coupler can be disconnected by pressing the connect / disconnect button.  The coupler can also be disconnected by pressing the "#" key and "9" key.
