Model 236

Photo switch

The Pyott Boone Model 236 Photo switch is designed as a general purpose, light controlled switch. The Photo Switch provides the ability to remotely control functions such as opening doors, throwing track switches, operating feeder-breakers controlling water sprays, and many others. The Photo Switch consist of a Control Unit and two Photo Sensors. Each Photo Sensor has 50 feet of 16/2 cable and a sensor housing extension that is used to reject ambient light.

The model 236 uses two Photo Sensors to detect the presence of light rays.  When light strikes either Sensor, a signal is sent to the Control Unit that energizes a  relay.  This relay will remain  energized until light strikes either Sensor a second time or the Control Unit times out. The Model 236 Control Unit features a LOAD ON indicator. The UNIT TEST switch is used to test the pc board. The UNIT BYPASS switch allows manual operation of the unit.  The LOAD ON indicator ( green ) is illuminated when the relay is energized.

The Model 236M and Model 236G differ from the standard Model 236 in that the light source is included with the unit. Control functions in both the 236G and 236M are accomplished by breaking a light beam. In the case of the Model 236G Gob Switch  the gob pile builds up and breaks the light beam resulting in a control function.  Output is 115 volt AC. The Model 236M Dust control, light would be interrupted by coal running on the belt and resulting in a control function.

MODEL 236  includes:

  • 500-1976-002 Light Sensor
  • 500-1038-001 Light Source

UNIT  TEST

The  “Unit  Test”  switch is located on the door of the  control  unit.   This switch  is  used when testing the control unit p.c. board.  Each  time  it  is pressed and released the relay changes state.
NOTE:  When the “Light Detection" is in the “Slow” position, the “Unit Test”  switch must be pressed for one and one-half seconds before the relay state changes.

UNIT  BY-PASS

The  “Unit By-Pass” switch is located on the door of the control  unit.   This switch  is  used to by-pass most of the components on the p.c.  board.   When this switch is pressed, the relay is energized.  This switch may be used as  a manual operation switch.

LOAD  ON

The “Load On” indicator (Green LED) is located on the door of the control unit.  When  the  relay  is energized, the LED illuminates.  When the  relay  is  de-energized the LED turns off.

SPECIAL OPTION FEATURES

There are three moveable jumpers located on the p.c.  board.   They  are labeled “Toggle”, “Timeout”, and "Fast Light Detection.

TIMER  SWITCH

The “Timer” switch is used to turn the adjustable timer feature “ON” or “OFF”.  In the “ON” position the relay is automatically turned off after a selectable time lapse. In the “OFF” position the relay stays “ON” until the sensor receives another signal from a light source. The “Time Set” is a potentiometer located near the center of the p.c. board.  This feature adjusts the automatic turn-off to the desired time. To increase the time delay, turn clockwise.
one and one-half seconds before the relay will change state.  If light is placed on the sensor for less than one and one-half seconds, then removed, the control unit will ignore it and the relay will not change state.  This position is used to prevent false activation of the unit.

SPEED  SWITCH

The “Speed” switch allows the relay state to be changed by either a “Fast” or “Slow” light pulse. In the “Fast” position, the relay will change immediately to the opposite state (ON or OFF) when the sensor is struck by light. In the “Slow” position, the light beam must be directed toward the sensor for approximately one and one-half seconds before the relay will change state.  If light is placed on the sensor for less than one and one-half seconds, then removed, the control unit will ignore it and the relay will not change state.  This position is used to prevent false activation of the unit.
