Model 292

Transient Suppressor

The Model 292 Transient Suppressor protects three circuits serving a computer or other sensitive electrical equipment that could be damaged by lightning or inductive transients.  The Model 292 provides serious protection of communication circuits (1 to 3) for both normal and common mode spikes.  The sturdy circuit board uses heavy duty input and output terminals and massive ground intercepts for quenching stray arcs.

Input stages--Functionally redundant, the first level of defense against dangerous high voltage transients on the line is the 300 amp, 1 ms, bi-directional gas discharge tube, in line with power resistors and 250V fuses.

Output stages--Bi-directional 1500 watt power zeners limit the output to about 10% above the signal voltage level normally carried by the protected lines.  Protection is line-to-line and line-to-ground.  The extremely high speed (1 pico sec) and sharp "knee" of the zeners avoids leakage from the transmitted signal.  If the zener capacity is exceeded, the circuits clamp to ground, blowing the fuses and saving the equipment.

The Model 292 is installed in a Nema four plastic enclosure.  Overall outside dimensions including mounting bracket are 11 1/2"H x 7 3/4"W x 4 3/8"D.  A solid earth ground connection with 12 AWG (or larger) copper conductor is required.
